Braised Meat and Vegetables (NIKUJYAGA)

Here’s a Japanese Recipes called Braised Meat and Vegetables (NIKUJYAGA). This is your typical Japanese house hold Japanese dish. We have this at least 4~5 times a month, depending on the kids. Lol So Let’s see what we need to get started.
Ingredients
  • 200g of Beef or Pork sliced
  • 4 Potato(large)
  • 1 Onion(medium)
  • ½ pack Shirataki(strings konnyaku)
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 tbsp of cooking oil
  • 1½ cup of water
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp sake
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Instructions
  1. Peel the potato, cut lengthwise into 4 wedges.
  2. Peel the carrot, cut slaw wise while rolling carrot.
  3. Cut the beef or pork into 4cm pieces.
  4. Rinse the shirataki in water, cut into 5-6cm lengths and boil for few minutes.
  5. Cut the onion lengthwise into 4-6wedges.
  6. Cooking:
  7. Heat oil in a pot, and fry the beef or pork, Add the shirataki, onion, carrot, and potatoes, and fry until their surfaces absorb oil.
  8. Add the water to the pot, bring to the boil.
  9. Over high heat, Reduce the heat, add the sugar and sake. and simmer for 5min, and add the mirin, soy sauce, and simmer until all the liquid is gone.
