Marinated Deep-fried Baby Octopus

Here’s how to make Marinated Deep-fried Baby Octopus. This is very popular among the men here is Japan when they are having a drink of beer or Japanese wine (sake). You can find this anywhere in Japan, most at Izakaiya Restaurants. I usually make this during the summer season for my hubby. I hope you enjoy it, so let’s get started with what we need to make this recipe. Now we have everything we need let’s get going with the cooking, shall we.
Ingredients
  • 1 kg fresh baby octopus or squid
  • ½ cup sake
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • oil for deep frying
  • 4 lemon wedges to garnish
  • ☆Sauce:
  • 4 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions
  1. Clean the baby octopus or squid by peeling the outer layer of skin
  2. under cold running water.
  3. Combine the sake and soy sauce in bowl and coat the octopus in
  4. the mixture. Set aside to marinate in a cool place for 2 min hours
  5. or overnight in the refrigerator.
  6. To make the sauce, combine the Worcestershire sauce, tomato ketchup and lemon juice in a small serving bowl and set aside.
  7. Drain the octopus and dredge each piece in the flour.
  8. Heat the oil to 160℃, and cook 4 to 6 piece of the octopus at a
  9. time for about 2min, or until crispy. Drain on a wire rack and
  10. repeat until the entire octopus is cooked.
  11. Serve immediately with sauce and lemon wedges.
