Today on Cooking Japanese Style we have a recipe called Tofu with Thick Sauce or くず豆腐 in Japanese. This is a very healthy recipe and a great side dish to go with any main course at dinner. We had this last week, because the hubby bought a couple packs of tofu. He bought more than usual; it was on sale at the supermarket. I hope you try this recipe and send me a feedback on how it turned out for you. Enjoy
Ingredients
  • 1 pack soft tofu
  • 4 shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 long green onion
  • For thick sauce
  • 100 ml dashi stock
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 1 tbsp starch

Instructions
  1. First we need to wrap the tofu in a paper towel and place on strainer to drain the water and cut into 6 pieces.
  2. Then we need to remove the stem from shiitake mushrooms and slice into 5㎜ thick pieces. Next cut the long green onion into 4-5㎝ long pieces and slice lengthwise.
  3. Now place the half of vegetable in bottom of a heat resistant bowl, then add the tofu. Then add the remaining vegetables. Combine the dashi stock, soy sauce, sugar, and sake. Now add the starch and mix well. Pour the mixture over the tofu and vegetables. Wrap it with plastic film loosely. Microwave on 600W for 6 min.
  4. Now remove the bowl from the microwave and stir. Serve it as is or with some cooked rice. Sprinkle with seven chili pepper if preferred.
